About
My name is Morgan Jenkins. I studied Secondary Education and Communication Studies at Texas Christian University. For as long as I can remember, I have always had two big dreams.-- I wanted to travel the world and I wanted to be a teacher. I grew up with teachers who loved me and invested in my life and it profoundly shaped who I am. With this, I was inspired to do the same thing. I studied Education and landed my my dream job, after university. I taught a Speech class at a high school for two years and got to know my students well. I was a volunteer Young Life leader (a faith-based organisation for high schoolers) and had the opportunity to travel on my breaks. During this time and for many years previously, I talked and dreamt about taking my passion for teaching, working with people and my love for travel and new culture and putting them all together. Which translated to me wanting to move to a different country than my own and teach! I knew I wanted to be in a Spanish speaking country, because I also have a passion for learning Spanish! So, here I am now. I am living in Madrid, Spain, learning this new culture and language and have the opportunity and blessing to teach about my language and culture in a primary school to my precious students. I am working with children in 2nd. 3rd and 5th grade this school year. Talk about living the dream!

As a teacher, I obviously want to teach my kiddos content. I was a high school, Speech teacher (ages 14-18) in Texas, in the USA. I wanted to teach them to communicate effectively, to speak in public, work in groups, learn life skills and to learn about who they are and what they are good at. As an English language assistant in Spain, I want to teach my students English and about culture and life outside of their own. But for me, the root and my why of teaching and working with kids is because I want them to feel loved and valued. So yes, I put forth much of my efforts to educate them, but I believe the most important thing is that they know they are loved and special.
I am a postive person and always try my best to come in with a smile. I love people of all kinds and am really good at getting along with every type of person. I have good communication skills and am adaptable. My favourite thing is to know people and build relationships. I will always strive to know my students and build relationships with them! I am excited to share about my experiences of teaching and being a language assistant on here!
My goals as a teacher is to continue to work in Spain as a language assistant. I hope to renew for my second year to grow as a teacher, grow culturally and grow in the Spanish language. After one or two more years here, I plan on moving back to the United States to teach in a public high school and work on getting my masters degree to become a secondary counsellor. I thrive at one on one situations and I hope to be a source of help, guidance and comfort for at-risk students. I hope to move to California, while working and getting my masters and of course travel more in between!
